AMORY, Miss. (WCBI) – An Amory family is left homeless this holiday season.

The early Tuesday (11/27) morning fire couldn’t have come at one of the worst times of the year.

Imagine being homeless for the holidays.

Five days after Thanksgiving and just ahead… the Christmas Holidays, but yellow tape in front of the home of an Amory family is a silent reminder of how what should be a merry time can turn out to be a gloomy one.

“The structure was fully involved. When we got there the back third of the house was involved. Flames and heavy smoke showing,” said Jimmy Bost, Amory Fire Department Chief.

“One girl woke the rest of the occupant up and everybody got out,” said Bost.

At the home of Linda Stallings there were at least three others inside at the time of the five thirty blaze.

The fire apparently started in a back bedroom and spread to other smaller rooms, and then the attic.

“One of the occupants had a blood pressure, high blood pressure condition and she was checked by a medical personnel on the scene and she was okay,” added Bost.

Rough time of the year for these house fires that can be dangerous and ruin a good time with family and friends.

“We urge everyone to take care with extension cords, with Christmas lights. And always have a smoke detector with an operating battery in it,” said Bost.

There was “not” a working smoke detector at that residence.

The blaze remains under investigation by the Amory Fire Department.
