TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Tupelo area residents have a chance to voice their vote in a worldwide film festival.

The annual Manhattan Film Festival is taking place throughout this week. This evening, the top 10 films in the worldwide competition for independent filmmakers will be screened at Tupelo’s Malco Theater.

Audience members at each location will receive ballots, and they will vote on their favorite film from the top ten. Next Monday, the overall winner will be selected from the votes worldwide.

Tupelo has been a part of the unique film festival for several years.

“We always encourage everybody,” Pat Rasberry with the Tupelo Film Commission said. “We say, ‘We’re bringing a little Manhattan to Tupelo.’ And what we like to do is say, ‘Hey, make a night of it.’ Get dressed up if you want to, or just come casual if you want to go grab dinner with some friends. Come out, get your ballot, watch some films and wait and see if you are one of the ones who selected the winner.”

The film festival kicks off at 7 p.m. tonight at the Malco Commons Theater in Tupelo.
