NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) — Art meets literature this week at New Albany’s Heritage Museum.

The museum is hosting a summer discovery camp for grades 2-5.

Among the books they’re studying: William Faulkner’s “The Wishing Tree,” and Willie Morris’ “My Dog Skip.”

Today, students explored the work of Starkville Children’s Author Lauri Parker, and shared some of their favorites.

“My favorite book is ‘The Secret Garden,’ where the uncle tells the little girl not to go in his garden because it has a secret door in it,” camper Abby Taylor said.

“I like this book a lot,” camper Montana Bullwinkle said. “I like how there are antonyms in it, and how it just all goes together.”

The camp will wrap up Friday with a percussion demonstration. Students will also make their own drums.
