Video: Authorities Release Name of Father that Saved Son in Caledonia

CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) — We now know the name of the father who drowned while trying to save his son at Lawrence Bridge near Caledonia.

59-year-old Oscar Ponds of Ethelsville died several hours after the Monday afternoon accident.

Coroner Greg Merchant says Ponds died from accidental fresh water drowning.

Witnesses say Ponds’ 26-year-old son was caught in the current near the boat ramp.

When the man dove in to save his son, they both went underwater.

Bystanders performed CPR on both victims until medical help arrived.
