PRAIRIE, Miss. (WCBI) — The 2014 Fall Beef Cattle and Forge Field Day was held for members of the public this morning in Monroe County.

Beef and forge producers received recommendations on a variety of topics in the industry that can have an influence on their production success.

The topics of discussion ranged from addressing native grasses to identifying cattle teeth as age indicators.

There were demonstrations of various practices and also the research that goes into those practices.

Organizers say although the prices for cattle are at a historical high, it is a great time to be in the industry.

“It’s very important to have good management at this time. To really do a good job with your cattle and it reflects very well on the industry but it can also very much benefit your bank account as well,” said Mississippi State University Professor, Dr. Parrish.

Participants were able to tour the cattle facilities. The Monroe county CO-OP and Clay County CO-OP sponsored the event.
