BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI) — For one Northeast Mississippi town, it’s a $600,000 question. And that’s important enough for the mayor himself to go door-to-door to ask it. Bruce Mayor Rudy Pope, other town officials and volunteers are surveying residents of the town as part of an application for a $600,000 federal grant. The grant gives preference to lower-income communities and areas with high needs. If received, the money would help the city offset a $1.2 million loan it took out earlier this year for major sewer improvements. That work is expected to begin by summer.

“We have about 15 volunteers right now and they will be going door to door,” said Mayor Rudy Pope. “We have to do all the businesses and houses. I think it is about 1,280 that we are going to have to do.”

The survey looks at incomes, number of residents and other issues related to grant qualifications.
