CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The trial of Wayne Harris is over before it gets started.

Jury selection was just beginning in the depraved heart murder trial of the Calhoun County man when he opted for a guilty plea to a manslaughter charge.

Harris admitted he shot 51-year-old Chris McGonagill to death after the pair argued during a cookout at McGonagill’s carpentry shop back in January.

Following the plea, Judge Breland Hilburn sentenced Harris to a 20-year prison term with 15 years suspended and five to serve.
