TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The 17th annual North Mississippi Race for the Cure is just around the corner, and Monday night the Fairpark Restaurant in downtown Tupelo hosted its annual Celebrity Wait Night featuring local celebrities like WCBI’s own Allie Martin. Patrons were encouraged to tip-well because the proceeds went to benefit the Race for the Cure next month at Fairpark. 25-percent of the proceeds go to breast cancer research while the rest of the money goes to care for patients living in the 16 county area of North Mississippi.

“A big part of what we do is money that stays locally, ” said Melonie Kight/Volunteer Chair for the North Mississippi Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. ” It helps for mammograms because that’s the best way to find breast cancer. And so in terms of what we have with technology nowadays, it’s the only thing that women and men have to find the lumps and things like that, Kight explains.
Kight says the race appreciates the time that the celebrity waiters gave to help raise money for the October 25th race which will be a 5K event along with one mile Fun Run/Walk. Thousands of participants will be on hand.
