HOULKA, Miss. (WCBI) — Despite yesterday’s fire, the Houlka Attendance Center will start school as scheduled.

Chickasaw County school leaders say students will be back in class on Wednesday.

Classrooms housing grades 5-6 were damaged in the fire, along with the auditorium and computer lab.

Houlka Principal William Cotton says classes will need to be moved around, but nothing that will negatively affect the upcoming school year.

“Right now, we are trying to make some decisions about what we are going to do to open school and our plans,” Cotton said. “Right now we are to go on like it didn’t happen. We still have an open house tomorrow night from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.”

The district is looking at minor damage done at the high school and ag center during the fire.
