ACKERMAN, Miss.(WCBI) — Some Choctaw County High School students are introduced to the real world. Given their academic level they must manage the amount of money corresponding to their career choices.

If only for a day future adults are walking in their parents shoes, stretching a dollar as they pay for groceries, utilities, and transportation.

“Childcare was a lot. Thats where I spent most of my money on, the kids,” said Jeremy Miller/Choctaw County High.

“If you get enough money you can pay for what you want and have comfort and not just be living off the ground,” said Brice Utley/Choctaw County High.

Based on their GPA Average these students are told what their occupation is, the teaching scenario moves the students through booths as they use money from their checking account register, spending it on necessities and entertainment….if they have money left.

The high school kids are making decisions and paying bills. Its a real wake up call. They are finding out that grades are very important.

“Yes we wanted to make sure that they understand that what their performance in the classroom will equate to their future earnings later on,” said Evelyn Edwards/BancorSouth Facilitator.

The make believe setting is no joke, as valuable lessons are learned, before they head out into the competitive and demanding work-a-day world.

“Don’t run out of money. How much money was I going to have to spend to get to keep living and keep paying for all he stuff,” said Brice Utley.

“Get a good education and just work hard in college and get a good job,” said Shakeria Smith/Choctaw County High.

Choctaw County School District administrators are expecting to conduct another reality fair in coming months to prepare students for the future.
