Ackerman, Miss. (WCBI) — When talking about quality health care for Ackerman and Choctaw County, the name Pioneer is now a thing of the past. For the last six days, a new manager has been operating the new Choctaw Regional Medical Center.

New temporary signage can now be seen at Choctaw Regional Medical Center, now that Trilogy Health Care Systems of Madison has officially taken over and is at the helm of the Ackerman medical facility. There has been no interruption in services while transitioning to a new manager for the hospital, clinics, and nursing home.

“They are doing a fantastic job. We had a short period of time to get in and for this transition period. And I’m telling you there were some long hours worked. I’m talking about 24 hour day hours worked up until the last minute,” said Rick Jenkins, CRMC Board Of Trustees President.

Brandywine left the facility four years ago and county officials renovated and added on to the county-owned hospital. Pioneer Health Care took over but got out of its contract earlier this year. County supervisors and their consultants landed Trilogy and its partner, Sunflower Medical Center, without interrupting service or eliminating valuable jobs.

“We are still averaging 8 to ten patients a day in a 15 bed hospital and that’s while, that’s going through all this transition,” said Jenkins.

The hospital, clinic, and nursing home may be small but their services are important when the nearest major medical facility is miles away.

“We can do CT Scans, any type X-rays, we do sonograms.”

The deal and management team has county leaders breathing a little easier.

“Like I say right now, we feel great about it. We think health care in Choctaw County is going to a new level,” said Jenkins.

Trilogy Health Services got a running start, actually they were physically in place three weeks early.
