CHOCTAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Doctors and nurse practitioners are now seeing patients at Pioneer Medical Clinic in Ackerman.

Choctaw County supervisors are moving forward, providing healthcare to rural areas of the county.

Its been a long time coming, but finally, a new state-of-the-art clinic is in operation at the corner of Hwy 9 and Hwy 12.

Among the staff, three medical providers are in place.

“Doctor Terry O’Malia, Jill Shaw, nurse practitioner, and Alisha Tenhet, nurse practitioner. Which will be assessable to walk-ins, scheduled visits. We’ll be able to do procedures here as well too, said Lauren Williams, CEO/Administrator, PCHC.

With the opening of the clinic and future development at the location, Doctor Terry O’Malia is expecting to stay busy in the coming year.

“I’ll be seeing patients in the hospital still during the morning and probably at lunch time. And we’re still looking forward to running the ER when its open. I’ll be working there quite a bit too as well as the nursing home, said O’Malia.

With the opening of the clinic and future completion of the other development projects, a better quality of healthcare seems to be shaping up and coming together.

“It is really exciting to be in the same spot for the next couple of years. I’ve been traveling around a lot and been in all kinds of different offices and clinics and its finally nice to get your own little place and to start seeing patients and building relationships, said O’Malia.

“We will have two other clinics. Pioneer family Medical of Ackerman and then Pioneer Family Medical of Weir in Weir, Mississippi, said Williams.

The new Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw under construction is expected to be completed  by the summer of 2013.
