HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI)-A Hamilton church is counting their blessings after an early morning fire.

Around 8 o’clock volunteer firefighters were called to Hamilton Baptist Church.

Upon arrival they found smoke pouring out of the roof.

Fortunately, the fire was quickly contained.

Roland Whigham with the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department said, “Nobody was injured, nobody was here at the time of the fire. The fire was found by a Monroe County Electric Employee who called it into the fire department. We battled the fire for approximately one hour before it was under control.”

The church suffered mostly smoke and water damage.

The fire appears to have started near the fuse box located at the back of the old sanctuary of the church.

The fire is believed to be an electrical fire.
