WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – Clay County’s Emergency Management Agency has another emergency response tool in its arsenal. The West Point School District donated a school bus to the West Point/Clay EMA.

Officials plan on retrofitting the bus with an Ambubus Kit paid for by a Mississippi Department of Health grant.

Other school districts in the state have followed a similar trail, with the Houston School District selling an unused school bus for an easy $1 to the Chickasaw County’s EMA.

West Point School District Assistant Superintendent Tim Fowler said he was proud to be of assistance.

“We are excited to just be a partner with the emergency management people to be able to provide this for our city and county, and for others that may put it to use.”‘
“All school buses become important, and turning this one and converting it into an ambulance will be very important, because you can  move 12 patients to the hospital or facility very fast.”

The kit will be installed Wednesday at the West Point Fire Department.
