COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The Columbus Fire Department is making sure bike riders are safe before hitting the road.

The fire department held its second installment of bike safety at the Columbus River Walk Saturday.

They offered free helmets, reflectors to place on your bicycle and even offered pink lemonade with a free fire department water bottle.

Bikes were also given identification numbers.

The main focus of the event is to make sure safety is the number one priority.
“That’s part of the purpose in giving out the reflectors and the helmets you know to make sure that they are safe when they are riding. We also give a few tips as how to ride. Hand signals as well,” says Anthony Colom.

Even if you missed the Saturday event, you can still register your bike and get other safety tips at the Columbus Fire Department on Main Street.
