COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus is officially looking for a new financial officer.

The city council officially accepted Chief Financial Officer Mike Bernsen’s resignation during Tuesday’s (12/18) meeting. But the move didn’t come without some last-minute discussions to try to keep him from leaving for a similar job at Columbus Light and Water for more pay and fewer headaches.

Since June 2008, Bernsen has helped navigate the city through difficult financial waters. He will continue to help the city during the transition as will Columbus accountant Mike Crowder, who worked as a consultant with the city before Bernsen was hired.
