COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Philip Hickman spoke before the Columbus Exchange Club today.

Hickman discussed the district’s recent purchase of new books and customization curriculum.

As lawmakers begin to look to next year’s statewide budget, some have been critical of the amount of money some districts are spending on administration versus in the classroom.

“When they looked at where the money, and how come money is not impacting student achievement, and the research shows that it was inappropriately placed,” Hickman said. “It has gone to administration, who has built different offices, and those kind of things, and that’s not something we’re gearing toward. We want our money to touch our children.”

Hickman is pleased with success he sees in some areas, especially with attendance so far this year.
