COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) Columbus Mayor Robert Smith had to break a 3 to 3 tie when new lines for the six city council WARDS were approved in December.

Now, Columbus residents will get a chance to express their views on the changes required by the annexation of about 1,500 people last fall.

The hearing is 5 p.m. March 3rd at the regular City Council meeting. The public can view maps at City Hall.

Ward 2 Councilman Joseph Mickens and Ward 4 Councilman Marty Turner were the most unhappy because of changes in the black voting aging populations in their districts.

If given fnal approval following the public hearing, the plan will take effect with next year’s city elections.
