COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Gas prices maybe coming down but water is heading up at least for customers of Columbus Light and Water. The utility board says it is increasing water rates by five percent. The bulk of that new money will go to cover capital improvement projects in the city. Among those are continued maintenance on two water plants, installation of new water mains in east Columbus along with sewer system projects on the Southside. The hike will mean about a $2.00 per month increase on the average bill. The new fees will likely take place in December. The last time water rates were increased was back in January 2013.
