TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – If you have hired or are in the process of hiring a contractor in the wake of the April 28th tornado, you need to be a buyer beware. It has been a little over two months since the storm and it could be months more before all the cleanup and repairs are complete. Unfortunately there have been reports that a few disreputable contractors have descended on the city, and that is why representatives from the National Center For the Prevention of Home Improvement Fraud came to the Lee County Library to warn consumers about shady contractors. Phae Moore is Executive Director of the NCPHIF.

“If they show you a contractors card call the city and verify it. Anything that they give you want to verify that information,” said Moore. “It’s so easy to pre-print or pre-produce documents that look original. You want to call these companies and verify that he does actually have coverage.”

Moore says if you are suspicious you should contact your local law enforcement officials and let them do their job.
