TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A Tupelo school heavily damaged in the April 28 tornado will be like new when students return in August.

Crews are hard at work, finishing repairs and upgrades to Joyner Elementary to get it ready in time for the start of the school year.

The school’s kindergarten wing was nearly destroyed in the twister.

Structural repairs have been made, the school has received a new roof and crews are upgrading electrical systems.

Work is scheduled to be completed July 21 to give teachers time to prepare their classrooms for the start of school.
