COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) Habitat for Humanity believes in making the American Dream of home ownership possible.

The families purchase these houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgage loans or innovative financing methods.

It’s a labor of love. Kathy Arinder and crew do not get paid to hammer, paint, or saw. As volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, they dedicate their free time to helping those in need. There was something special about this build. Ladies of the Golden Triangle strapped on their tool belts for National Women Build Week. I could not pass up on this opportunity.

Teamed with a Habitat veteran, I was put on the table saw. A frightening thought, considering my past experiences with power tools. I learned that measuring twice and cutting once is really the best way to go about cutting. I also learned that I swing a hammer like a girl, and that leverage is important when it comes to putting a nail in a board. Most importantly, I learned that team work truly does make dreams work. On the site of the 10th Avenue home in Columbus, the air was not only filled with the sights and sounds of a construction zone. It was filled with community spirit. For the crew of Habitat for Humanity volunteers in the Golden Triangle and beyond, this is just one more day in the life.
