NEW ORLEANS, Miss. – (WCBI) Below sea level, and with a higher population than any other city in Louisiana. The city landscape is drastically different since Hurricane Katrina, but much of the French and Spanish architecture remains.

NOLA is known for its benefits, cajun cuisine, art and jazz.

“I mean, it’s a huge part of what the show is. New Orleans itself is a character and we find ourselves just getting more and more excited by what we are seeing and what we are experiencing and what we are learning,” says NCIS New Orleans Running Producer Gary Glasberg.

All of its historic elements make it more than just a backdrop for the newest addition to the NCIS franchise. It’s the southern city that never sleeps, but it does come with a darker side. That’s where Scott Bakula’s character Dewayne Pride comes into action.

“I know everyone in this town. I know where all the bodies are. I know who is taking money, who is not taking money. So, we have an opportunity to create an entire city full of characters and come back to them,” says Bakula.

Bakula says he is drawing inspiration from reality.”D’Wayne Swear. He is my number one inspiration. And then just being here, in all these different great environments we have been shooting in. I am delighted to be embracing his passion for this city, for the people who live in this city, for law enforcement. It’s a different kind of guy I played before.”

The cast and crew members have spent time, getting accustomed to culture of New Orleans.. So– how does Joe Spano tour the Big Easy?

“I rented a bicycle. It’s great. Its the way to see New Orleans. Forget about being on top of a double decker bus. Get down on the ground. You can walk around, but you can also see more if you ride a bike.”

The sites, the sounds and the personality of New Orleans may just steal the show, that’s starting this fall.
