COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI)Severe weather can strike at any time, we know that by now.

There’s something about spring that stirs up some of the strongest storms of the year.Chief Meterologist Keith Gibson says now is the time to prepare.

Setting up your detection device doesn’t have to be complicated. I sat down with the weather guru, to find out about setup.

Set the time, just like you would a normal alarm clock. Then, scroll through until you find the location tab. That is where you choose your county. If you live near a county line, Keith suggests adding the county to your south and west. Keep your weather radio near your bedroom, so that you can hear it overnight.

After you’ve completed programming, it is important to test your radio. If it is still not working, stay tuned to WCBI.

We will continue to host weather radio events at stores near you. The WCBI First Alert Weather team will be here to help.

Your first line of defense is always good to have when seconds count.
