Video: Deadlines Loom for Those Applying for Disaster Aid

NORTH MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — With one week left before the deadline to sign up for federal disaster assistance, aid to victims of storms in late April and early May has topped $17 million.

FEMA has awarded more than $5 million for housing costs and repairs and another $1.3 million for emergency medical expenses, including funerals for nine of the victims of the April 28th tornadoes. The SBA has awarded more than $12.5 million in low-interest loans to 188 residential and business properties. And almost 5,200 people have contacted FEMA about assistance and the agency has inspected 28,000 homes.

The deadline to apply for disaster aid is June 30th.
