BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI) — After months of work, a volunteer group is able to break ground on a new no-kill animal shelter in Bruce.

The volunteers who inspired the effort were joined by city leaders this morning for official groundbreaking for the shelter which should be completed next spring.

The Dog Lovers League has a 30-year lease to build the shelter on city-owned land off Thompson Lane near the city lagoon. It will hold at least 50 dogs and have automatic feeders, an office, care center and storage area

. Donations are covering the costs. The group started out housing strays at a volunteer’s home.

Donations can be made online by visiting www.dogloversleague.org.
