UNION COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Bluegrass pickers and players from all over Mississippi and beyond gathered at the Union County Fairgrounds Saturday. It was the 12TH annual “Down from the Hills” Heritage Music Festival. More than $8,000 in cash prizes and trophies were given away. The festival was designed to celebrate Bluegrass and encourage younger people to keep it alive.  Event organizer Jill Smith says Bluegrass differs from traditional country music, in that none of the instruments are electronically amplified. She says Bluegrass is part of the history of this region.
