MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — Federal assistance after the April 28 tornado outbreak in Mississippi has reached $19.7 million.

12 counties in the state were declared natural disasters. Lee and Winston Counties received the most damage.

The money goes toward housing grants, home repair, medical care and funeral expenses.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) says survivors should keep in contact with agencies to monitor claims.

Tornado victims receiving rental assistance or staying in temporary housing units are required to re-certify their need for continuing assistance.
