Booneville, MS(WCBI)-Members of a Prentiss County church congregation are determined to re build after an early morning fire damaged their church on Christmas Eve.

In Booneville, a church building that was like a second home to parishioners is no more. Nearby on the grounds of Crossroads Full Gospel Church, a pile of debris, indication of the disaster.

“Something like that is kind of like death you never expect nothing like that, and you know it really startled me,” said Rev. Stanley Shook, Pastor.

“I had to kind of settle down a little bit before I could drive and then I came on. And when I pulled up I mean it was actually still in flames I just lost it again,” said Betty Ann Wood, Church Member.

After enduring the Christmas Eve fire that destroyed the sanctuary and a classroom, members somehow having grabbed hold of faith, have launched a restoration project.

“Christmas Day they called me about one thirty, some of them were already out here starting to clean up. Got down here and there was about 15 to 20 of us out here Christmas Day cleaning up,” said Wood.

“God Don’t do bad things but you know God allows things to happen that his will might be done,” added Pastor Wood.

It appears that in Booneville, although Christians of the holiday disaster are being tested already in 2014, there is hope they’ll come out victorious when its all over.

“I feel like its going to get put back up and its going to grow stronger than it ever has, thats what I think,” said Daisey L. Thomas, Church Member.

The blaze was ruled accidental, the church will be planning fundraisers as they continue to rise from the ashes of despair.
