TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Students throughout our area had a special guest read to them today. First Lady Deborah Bryant read to second graders at Tupelo’s Lawhon Elementary School. She read the book, “The Fib, A Wordy Tale” by Mississippi author Bill Wilson. It’s part of a 82 county tour across the state where she reads to grade schoolers, to promote literacy and reading.

“We like to get the children to get up at the end and read some of those words with the definitions, I think it encourages them to try and that’s the main thing I want to bring home to them, to at least try, if you don’t try how do you know what you can do.”

Lawhon marked the 73rd school on the reading tour. She was in Pontotoc earlier in the day.
