JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — No free tuition, that is what a legislative committee decided when it let a bill that would guarantee community college tuition statewide die on Wednesday. The legislation, called the GAP Program, would have provided recent high school students who have at least a 2.5 GPA with tuition money to cover all community college expenses outside of other federal grants and scholarships. The legislation would cover all costs for students who qualify for financial aid. Officials say the reason for letting the bill die was that there were too many unanswered questions about the estimated questions regarding the estimated cost of the program.
