STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -From Paris, France to Starkville, Mississippi, a second grader is learning our language with a little help from a Mississippi State Student.

She came all the way from Paris France with her mom and dad and goes to Sudduth Elementary. 7 year old Jade is excited about education.

“I like multiplication and division,” said Jade Alauzet.

” We were living in Paris so in France and it’s very very different but we enjoy it. It’s a good experience for us,” said her father Frederic Alauzet.

A couple of months ago, MSU student Rebecca Griffith started teaching Jade English. She’s catching on quickly.

“It’s a lot of fun, I teach her vocabulary words so she many have no idea what a word means and I’ll have to act it out or draw a picture of it or sometimes I use the English to French translator on my phone but it’s fun,” said MSU student Rebecca Griffith.

“We are very proud of her and because she is here and learned a lot and have an open mind so we are very happy for her to learn,” said mother Sylvaine Alauzet.

Griffith took four semesters of French at Starkville High and is studying foreign language at MSU.

“I see it as a big need here in our schools with so many international people with the university and I went to the public schools, came to Sudduth when I was Jade’s age and I had friends who couldn’t speak English and so It’s a big need and something that I’d love to be a part of helping,” added Griffith.

Jade is making good grades at Sudduth Elementary.
