FULTON, Miss. (WCBI)- Just about everything water and electric in Fulton is about to get an upgrade. This month, crews will begin a $3.2 million dollar project installing new high-tech gas and water meters. Instead of meter readers walking from house to house, they’ll be able to drive down the street and get numbers electronically. Reading 3,200 meters will take two days instead of a month. That’ll reduce water losses and help customers better monitor their use. The city also will install energy efficient lights in all traffic signals, street lights and city buildings. The energy savings will pay for almost all the improvements. Winona, Starkville, West Point, Columbus and several other towns are doing similar projects.
