Video: Future of KiOR Plant Uncertain, but State Makes no Moves

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – As Lowndes County awaits a decision on the aluminum processing mill, there are questions regarding the status of the troubled KIOR facility.

And there may be even a glimpse of hope at least for the refinery itself.KIOR defaulted on a state loan last week meaning the Mississippi Development Authority could have immediately seized the idled site. So far that has not happened .

Link Executive Director Joe Max Higgins says he’s had some contact with the state that might mean some thing is in the works to possible find a new use for the buildings.

“In working with representatives at the state companies that might be interested in acquiring that. We have over the curse of the last several weeks provided reams of information to different companies regarding the facility regarding the community and hopefuly we will find somebody to call that home soon.”

State leaders have not put any kind of timeline on when they might take action on the future of the KIOR site.
