JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) — More state troopers, more prosecutors and a tool to track violent offenders were signed into law today. Governor Phil Bryant signed the three bills which had been priorities for the Legislature this spring.

One funds a new state trooper school and will add 60 officers to the Highway Patrol. That measure briefly got tied up this year in political infighting in Jackson. Another funds 16 assistant district attorneys across the state. And a third requires DNA samples from people arrested on violent felony charges. The DNA will go into a database that can be compared to unsolved crimes to search for a possible match.
