COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The Golden Triangle will soon have the means to assist those who are homeless, thanks to a local non-profit group and many volunteers.

Reverend Anne Harris, Priest of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Columbus, spoke on behalf of the Golden Triangle Regional Homeless Coalition, giving an update on the group to the Exchange Club.

The coalition group kicked off in September, but Reverend Harris says in the past month, the group has gained a lot of momentum.

Currently, the group is looking for housing of an emergency shelter for short term needs.

Harris says the need for a shelter in the area is evident and will fill many needs.

“It’s painful to have to say to them ‘ we don’t have a shelter, the nearest one is Tupelo’, and homeless folk rarely have vehicles that will get them that far, if they have vehicles at all. So it will fill a great need.”

Volunteers are welcome to the homeless coalition group.
Organizers say a facebook page will soon be avaiable.
