LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Golden Triangle Development LINK held its quarterly meeting Wednesday afternoon at East Mississippi Community College, with executives from the Yokohama Tire Company as special guests.

Tadaharu Yamamoto, is the newly named President of Yokohama Tire Manufacturing, Mississippi. He’s been visiting the Golden Triangle this week with other  company reps, touring various manufacturing facilities in the region, and making introductions.

Yamamoto will serve as President of the manufacturing facility currently being constructed in Clay County. West Point Mayor Robbie Robinson says the local economy is expected to improve dramatically.

“Local retail establishments are going to benefit from this. If sales tax doesn’t go up in West Point, I’ll be sorely disappointed. But we plan to ride a wave of success. We really do,” says Robinson.

CEO of the Golden Triangle LINK, Joe Higgins, says the construction of the new tire facility is moving along as planned.

“The ground breaking is on Monday. After that, I think you’ll see massive amounts, millions and millions of yards of dirt starting to be moved. We’ve awarded the contract on the water tank so you’ll see that work starting,” says Higgins.

Construction of the facility will provide Yokohama with a manufacturing capacity of up to one million tires annually.

The construction of Yokohama Tire is expected to be completed by October 2015.
