COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County’s new-found success with alternative investments for its 30 million dollar hospital trust fund may start paying big dividends for the community.

Board of Supervisors President Harry Sanders said today the money might help fund an extension of the popular 2 point 5 mile Riverwalk. Other projects also are being discussed, projects Sanders says will improve quality of life for local residents and attract visitors.

“Some of our plans that we have for the next year just on the drawing board, it’s nothing real concrete, is a riverwalk all the way from the Highway 82 bridge all the way to the Lock and Dam, possibility of maybe west of the river, somewhere on Highway 82 and also a multipurpose type building,” said Sanders.

The multipurpose building could host everything from 4-H events to major horse and cattle shows. Sanders gave his annual State of the County update to the Columbus Exchange Club.
