MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – Lazy U farm is showing others what country living is all about. On the 92 acres of land in Macon, you’ll find goats, chickens, rabbits and donkeys, and rows of strawberries, blueberries, corn and squash.

“I made the drive all the way from Columbus to come down here, and my girls loved picking strawberries. They are really nice and helpful. They brought us out to the field and got us all set up with buckets,” said first time visitor Richard Olsen.

“We wanted to do something with the farm. We decided we would come out here and try to start with gardens, then get the place set up for schools, churches and birthday parties,” said Lazy U owner, Myron Unruh.

The u-pick farm has been open for a little over a year, and the Unruh family is looking forward to more additions. Anyone can come to the farm for a tour and buy fruit they have picked from the fields, and the kids have many favorites too.

“Picking strawberries and taking pictures of the animals,” said 11-year-old Rayshaun Gibson.

“Seeing the baby chickens and rabbits and donkeys,” said 11-year-old Nykeya Williams.

Of course the playground is a favorite as well.

“The slide’s a little bit tough, it’s fairly fast and when they come out of there some can’t land too well,” Unruh said.

From picking strawberries to walking the corn maze, Lazy U provides a relaxing farm experience for the whole family.

“It’s a great activity and gets your kids out of the house. You’re supporting a local community, they’re organic strawberries. It’s just a good time,” Olsen said.

Lazy U is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is located at 5572 Elon Road in Macon. Call 662-361-0237 or visit https://www.facebook.com/LazyUFarm for more information.
