TUPELO, Miss. – (WCBI) Supporters of an initiative that seeks to advance workplace equality for homosexuals and lesbians in Mississippi met in the area Wednesday night.

The Human Rights Campaign held an informational meeting at “Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen” in Tupelo. The event is part of a series of launches for a program called “Equality is Our Business.”

Organizers say they want to get businesses signed onto a pledge to have diverse and inclusive workplaces.

“You can’t discriminate on the basis of race, gender and lots of other categories but you can discriminate against people as it relates to their sexual orientation and gender identity,” says Rob Hill with the HRC.

HRC plans to have more meetings in the future throughout our area.
