Video: Japanese Lessons At Millsaps In Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)–At Millsaps Career Technology Center at Starkville High School, students are embracing Japanese culture.

As part of a service learning project, Mississippi State University students are helping to educate about ways and customs different from theirs. With the construction of the Yokohama Tire Plant in West Point, the outreach program aims to provide give insight into the Japanese way of life, highlighting similarities or differences between Japan and the U.S.

The presentation gives a lengthy demonstration on the Japanese kimono, a traditional garment.

“I’m hoping this is a starting point for our community to understand different culture as well as Japanese culture. And I hope this is a way that a lot of our local kids understand different cultures are also very relevant to their lives,” said JuYoung Lee/MSU Professor-Japan Outreach Coordinator.

There are two more Japanese culture lessons to be held at Millsaps Vocational Technology School, October 27th and October 21st.
