AMORY, MISS. (WCBI) — A local family is dealing with a devastating loss. Timothy Jones Jr, who confessed to killing all 5 of his children, has left his family with many unanswered questions. Wednesday, the family released a statement regarding the situation asking for prayer and support from the public.

The family of murder suspect Timothy Jones Jr. gave a statement to Wednesday about the arrest of their son and the deaths of their grandchildren.

“We know that the angels are with us but your prayers are helping us cope. We do not have all the answers and we may never have all of them,” said Jones.

The shocking deaths of the Jones’ grandchildren have shaken the family. During the emotional press conference they say they’ll now mourn the loss of the kids and their son, who is in jail.

“People will come to their own conclusions and as parents we can understand that decision based on the circumstances. But please remember that our little Tim is a very loving, father, brother and son, ” said Jones.

Amory Church of Christ minister, Derrick Maranto, who has ties to the Jones family heard about the devastating tragedy and stepped in to help.

“Christ wept. Christ wept with his friend and for his friend and so we wept. Its letting people know its okay to cry, ” said Derrick Maranto.

Maranto says there is one example to turn to when facing trials in life and one way to find hope through tragedy.

“Look at the example that God set for us with his son and you follow that example then if you imitate him, then you’ll be able to help and deal with situations like this,” said Maranto.

Maranto says strong community support will help them grieve.

“It’s a perfect opportunity for us to show that we do love our neighbor whether that’s a mile down the road or whatever, ” said Maranto.

The Jones family members are heartbroken about the tragedy that has hit their family.

They’re asking for one thing from the public as they grieve the loss of their grandchildren.

“Prayers from loved ones for our family as well as their mother and her family. We know we have angels with us, ” said Jones.

A memorial service for the children will be held Friday September 12th, beginning at 1:00 pm at the Amory Church Of Christ.
