WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A West Point man is behind bars for a little longer for now, but will return with some good news. 30-year-old Joshua Karriem was on trial this week in Clay County Circuit Court.

Karriem was arrested in July last year in connection with a July 18, 2013 armed robbery and kidnapping case in West Point. He, along with another man, allegedly broke into a West Point man’s home, assaulted him and kidnapped him.

He was charged with armed robbery, burglary of an occupied dwelling and kidnapping. However, Karriem tonight was found not guilty of the kidnapping charge, but the jury was unable to unanimously find him guilty on the other two charges, resulting in a mistrial.

Karriem has been unable to post his $75,000 bond, but his attorney, Mark Cliett, said he’ll make the case for a bond reduction tomorrow morning.
