Video: Lee County’s Top Parent

LEE CO., Miss. – (WCBI) In a room packed with educators, parents, students and friends the rewards for selfless dedication was recognized.

A mother of two is named parent of the year for the Lee County School District. In accepting her award, Melissa Cockrell appeared extremely humbled as she told of her commitment to seeing her children receive the best education possible.

Cockrell is known throughout the district as a faithful volunteer. The Lee County honoree is presently working with the district’s spring fling fundraiser.

“I just hope that you know they see that you know parents can be involved and parents can be there to help the teachers and help the staff and to just you know be dependable,” said Melissa Cockrell, Parent of The Year.

Cockrell has a son Trace in the second grade, and a daughter, Jordan a sixth grader.
