MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) — The requests are in, but now comes the hard part.

The Legislative Budget Committee now must spend the next two months culling through requests from schools, universities, Medicaid and prisons to figure out a way to match requests with available money.

After a week of budget hearings, state agencies are asking for $1 billion more than they received last year, with much of that for education and health care.

The legislature has not settled on a revenue estimate, but experts say it’s not growing as fast as it has the last three years.
