TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — The floor of Bancorp South Arena was packed Saturday as friends of the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Mississippi attended its major fundraiser.

WCBI’s Alyssa Martin and other contestants of the Dance Like the Stars ballroom dance competition hope that they will impress the judges and the audience Saturday night.

The contestants had to go through extensive training and appeared on stage with professional instructors.

“It’s exciting for me to be a part of this,” said Jim Clark, President and CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. “It’s a unique event and it will be a lot of fun. But second of all, I really want to lend my support to help the club here build awareness of the great work they’re doing to help kids, but also to help raise additional resources, funds, so that the clubs can serve more kids and more families going forward.”

Last year Dance Like the Stars raised $246,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs, and everybody expects to exceed that figure Saturday.
