MANTEE, Miss. (WCBI) — As Easter approaches, one local church is reaching out to those in need throughout the community.

For the second year, members of  the New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church are preparing toiletry Easter baskets for the elderly, sick and shut-ins.

This year, the church is sending out around 60 baskets, which is double the number they sent out last year.

The baskets consist of toiletry items and crafts that the youth department made.

The church members say they wanted to reach out and help those in the community.

“We actually didn’t know exactly what we wanted to do we just wanted to reach out and help others, and the idea of fruit baskets first came up, with one of our missionary members, but that’s very common, so by it being Easter and all about Christ and His death and resurrection and how He is our King today, so we just came up with idea of getting toiletry items and putting them into Easter baskets, a little something different, then with little pamphlets and crosses it’s just a reminder of our Savior and what He has done for us,” said Courtney Ivy, Missionary Society president.

The baskets will be delivered throughout the week.
