COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippians must now bid a final farewell to a long time lawmaker. Senator Terry Brown passed away Thursday evening, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. It happened just before 6:00 P.M. at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle.

The Lowndes County Republican had been receiving very aggressive treatment after being diagnosed with lung cancer last year. Lt. Governor Tate Reeves released a statement today saying Brown’s family is requesting privacy.

The Columbus native served as President Pro Tempore in the State Senate, but is well known locally for allowing economic development to come to Lowndes county by offering tax breaks and incentives. His career in the legislature began in 1988.

“When you went somewhere you wanted to be with Terry because you knew it was going to be a lot of fun. Terry looked after Lowndes County probably better than any other representative or senator than we’ve ever had.”

“He was hilarious, just easy going type of person. He was a man of his word and you could count on him.”

He is survived by his wife Andra, and his three children– Cody, Chas and Boomer.

Lowndes Funeral Home is handling the final arrangements.
