Video: Longtime Law Officer Retires

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – He’s dedicated his life to law enforcement and now retiring for good.

Billy Pickens is retiring from his job as Lowndes County Jail administrator. A reception was held this morning in his honor.

Pickens started his 40-year-long career as a patrol officer with the Columbus Police Department and eventually worked his way up through the ranks to become Chief of Police.

Pickens later retired but began working again for the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department. After five years as jail administrator, he retires again. Pickens says over the course of his career he’s seen many changes.

Pickens plans on traveling more and visiting family. Friday will be his official last day of work.
