LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) -Louisville leaders decide the fate of a dilapidated park. The Board of Alderman proposed turning the Academy Park lot into a housing development.
The proposal included buying the land to accommodate 35 new homes. But residents argued that taking away the park would deprive children and create traffic woes. Now city alderman will look into a “Plan B”.

“This park was donated by the Johnson family for East Side children. Now, the mayor’s going to come take the basketball field and put it into a complex. And there’s a stipulation in this complex as to where children that don’t live in the complex can’t go in the rec room and play. No. We’re not for it. We’re definitely against.”

“The park is a very sentimental place for them. they have a passion for it, (and) they need a place for their children to play, but we do have a ‘plan b’ for housing. I don’t know all the details right now about it, but it is in the making. And we will have, as far as I know, carry out this same plan we had for the park, it would just be moved to another area.”

It’s now up to the community to clean up the park, and protect it from vandals.
